So I got a new laptop. (loving it)

    Except 2 things -

vista asking my permission to do anything and everything is COMPLETELY ANNOYING. Is there a way I can get it to not ever ask my permission on anything without shutting off the firewall?

(Its like hey... vista... if I wasn't sure I wanted to run this program... I WOULDNT HAVE OPENED IT) They should just have a non-retarded-operator mode.

anyways... the network related question -

I want to get about 15gb worth of files from my XP computer to my Vista computer.. figured it would be as simple as putting the files in the shared folder.. but nope, god forbid something being easily done on Vista. How do I access the files in the shared folder from my Vista machine?

    Thanks for the info.

I downloaded Windows Easy Transfer and it worked up until the files started transferring then it kept saying network problems and wouldnt make any progress, despite both computers being hooked up to the network with internet working fine.

=\ so much for easy. Friend is bringin his USB-to-HD adapter so i can just rip out the HD and use it as external to transfer all my files.

    Hi cmj2k2,

You may want to try it the other way around. create a share on vista and give the everyone group full control permissions.

from XP access the vista share and copy.

So what you've written in this thread as I think I understand it is that to want to do a right click on the XP machine's files and do a send to the Vista machine via the network they share.

Just to make it clear from my end, I need to help a friend get the files off her XP laptop to her new Vista tower system. They are connected via the MAC airport wireless device. And there is a backup CD dated two weeks before the lightening strike took out her DSL modem. She lost the DSL/CAT 5 port and the DVD burner but can still use the the rest of the laptop. First time in 30 years living on the mountain and it hit through the telephone for her go figure! Anyway, she's not desperate but would like a few items off the XP laptop.
