Sending Large Files

Hi Everybody!
I want to send a large file to a friend of mine (the file is about 1GB) but do not know exactly how to. I know theirs also programs that can split files up and send the bits and then the file can be reconstructed. I don't really care how I do it as long as it gets to the person and they can easily download it on to their computer.
