    Hi,
Recently, I've had problems with my Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. Not only did it slowly begin to die over a few days, it finally culminated today. Windows crashed and could not be restarted. Safe mode would hang, freeze, and then restart without me ever doing anything. So I decided to format and reinstall windows after a few troubleshooting things. However, now the installation is a big disaster. I had success the first time till it got to the GUI installation screen, where ti restarted setup about 3 times before not working at all. After that, I couldn't get past the initial text-based setup screen. It would give me the error...something like "hard error" when trying to format my partition during install. I gave it a few more shots, and the computer decided to work when it wanted to. It has got back to the GUI set up screen and it hung up during the Installation of Devices for about a half hour, before giving me a blue screen:

    Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error

    Tech Info:
    STOP: 0x0000007A (0xe10214dc, 0xc00000E, 0xBF92767E, 0x09CFc860)
    Win32k.sys - Address BF92767E base at BF800000, DateStamp 3d6de5e5

So now i'm back at step one. Clueless to the problem, an empty harddrive and no computer.

Afraid of the responce but...Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Any suggestions? Remedies?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

If you can get into the Recovery Console, try to run Chkdsk /r

Also, see if any of THIS helps?

If it has worked previously, then hardware incompatibility isn't an issue, meaning more than likely it's failing hardware or driver.

Try having the bare minimum physically connected, and try installing again.

its doing a Chkdsk /r now - however its going about 1% every 2-3 minutes (unless this is normal). Ill post the results tomorrow morning.

The chkdsk finished - But its not telling me much. It said:

CHKDSK found one or more errors on the volume and fixed them

However, setup still doesn't complete itself (although I don't get any error messages.) It freezes when its copying files for the setup

    Still at a loss.

    An update:

I ran some Dell diagnostics on the hard drive. I got two errors.

    0f00:0244 AND 0F00:1a44

    Any clue?

Braq24, try downloading a manufacturer's utility for your hard drive, we have most available here in the downloads section.
