I have been attempting to reduce freezes and slowness on my Laptop by reducing the amount stored on the hard disc (including a 4 1/2 hour defrag which yielded about 10 gb), I also ran various checking and system imroving software (all gotton through Major Geeks).
I started it up this morning and all was not well (last night it was!):

Initially to went through acheckdisc routine (which actually it did last night) in a dos like view.

Then I tried to uninstall Advanced system care4 but it wouldn't work, I restarted the laptop:-

On starting up the message headed "ASCTray.exe - unable to locate component" inside the box "...rtl20.bpl was not found" appeared.

On clicking on computer abox came up headed "Microsoft windows" containing "Advanced systemcaretray has stopped working".

On attempting to uninstall one of the program used to improve the laptop (Advanced system care4), a message came up headed "error" saying messages file C:\program file\IObit\advancedsystemcare4\unitst000.msg is missing.

When all this was closed the message "display driver stopped responding and has resumed" appreared.

I have looked at restoring to an earlier point but no other restore is available, so what do you suggest?

    Thanks

Install the program again and try to unistall.

That is the problem with some programs meant to clean up your system, they delete restore points. If I'm having issues I'd do a restore point first (which usually says 'nothing changed') then I'd run a system file check, check for driver updates, OS updates, clean the registry, then clean the junk files, run a defrag & then run a full AV scan. Also if this was someone else's system I'd run an image before doing anything, just so I could get back to the start if it all went south.

    But that is just me.

Thanks FOOGOO that worked, all seems to be fine now. Except I just had the windows internet explorer not responding message at he top of the screen again as everything froze (which was where I started with all this!). Is this an issue that someone can help with?

    Thanks

Did you run a system file check too?

I've chickened out on using Advanced system care 3 and Advanced system care 4.
v3 gave me headaches, as it seemed too powerful for me and did some unwanted things. Probably I did not understand its' ramifications fully at the time. :-o

    start > run > type sfc /scannow
You have to have the OS install disk to repair files.

I've tried that FOOGOO but all that happens is that the outline of a rectangular box flashes. I checked in taskmanager and it isn't running.
    PS
Today I couldn't start the laptop normally, it had to restore.

    Thanks
