I am running microsoft xp home edition. I was trying to install a software program the other day and a message popped up saying that It could not access the windows installer.

I looked all around the microsoft site but the only downloads of windows installer was for Microsoft ME, and NT.

I am at a loss for what to do, if anyone has any ideas please let me know. I looked for my XP installation disk but could not find it so there goes that idea...

    Thanks for any help...

I recently added adaware and used it to remove some spyware. I am not sure but maybe it deleted some files that are needed for the installer to work.

And yes I am logged in as the administrator.

I doubt that. Can you give me the exact error message, please?

    Figured it out...

Went into the system utiliity and somehow the windows installer under the services tab had become unchecked.

Checked it and rebooted, working like new...

    Thanks for all the help...
