I was working on a laptop...a compaq ..don't have the stats on it ..it's not in front of me right now...just wondering if anybody else experienced this...It was infected badly ..rootkit threats vundo win32 ...some top dogs...I used superantispyware..and spybot ...and that's how I know which ones were there ..to top it off it was infected with spyware protect 2009...after the scans clicked to clean the superantispyware did what it could do ..and spybot ...which asked me to run again upon reboot because some files could not be removed..clicked yes...never got it to reboot back into the boot scan because it froze up ..then the real problems began...first the icons disappeared and the taskbar ..went to safe mode wouldn't boot into safe mode..got to drivers loading and stopped...went back to regular boot...logged in and then it auto logged out??..retry several times ..same ..went back to safe mode same thing ..go to the log page logged either administrator or user account and same thing kept logging back out automatically...that's where it sits..tried to format ...with the os disk error message came up saying the hard drives not connected..it is serial ata...anybody??

I am moving your thread to software as we cannot help you until you have a stable system.

Well is it possible to tell me what it may be that when you log into your system that auto logs you off?..is that in the registry ..and if so how can i correct the problem?

If the userinit.exe file has been deleted or corrupted or if registry entries related to it have been deleted or corrupted, you will get looped back to the login form over and over. If the file is missing, you have to get it copied back to the C:\windows\system32 folder and you will need to use the Recovery Console to copy it back from your Windows boot CD.

If the registry is corrupted the below procedure can be used. Again you need your Windows CD:

ok..so I was able to format the drive in my laptop which also happen to be a sata hd also and tried to re-install the os with the disk and I get the same message which says "windows xp home edition setup"
setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer
make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program
    setup cannot continue"

Excuse me thread hijack in progress.

Just asking a question. What do you do when it asks for the floppy disc and 99% of computers no longer have a floppy drive. I have a floppy drive and cable laying around for just such a thing, but a 'normal' computer user wouldn't. I have slipstreamed all the "MassStorage", "CPU", "Chipset", "LAN" and "WLAN" drivers from driverpacks.net into a XP Pro disc would this allow Windows to install because all the sata drivers on now on the cd?
