    Hi again,

I have a situation where i am adding an XP Home to an existing network. The network consists of Server 2000 and 4 workstations all have Windows 2000 Pro. Although I have the XP on the network I don't know how to pull up a login script for it. I have tried to go into My Computer properties and set it up under Workgroup (which is the way the others are) but I don't get a login or password screen.

I can login prompt when I go to My Computer and hit the path for the server. Is this maybe a limitation of the Home Edition or can I write some kind of script for this workstation? Any suggestion are appreciated.

    Thanks for helping.

When your XP machine starts a user is already logged in. If you do a CTL + ALT + DELETE there is a user tab that will show you who you are logged in as.

You can add different users to the machine and once you do, the machine will present you with a login selection for each of those users when you power up.

I understand that but does it generate a login script with a username and password that sets the paths to the Server?

:) :) Usually you need to set different user groups ....one the local machine and the other the networked group ....that way you can have default users for the local and default for the network (server based). :) :)

Nope, the only way you can do that is have the workstation join a domain. TxTazDad said he had a workaround.

Or pay the extra cash like you should, work arounds are generally bugging and not a good idea for a business network.

TxTazDad suggestion will work, but login scripts will not be run.

Another way, if your 2000 server is not a domain controller, is to replicate all of your user names from your workstations in the 2000 server users and groups with the EXACT password. Then you could create a batch file that could be executed when the workstations start that would map the drives you want using the "net use" commands.

I'll give it a try later today or Tuesday.
