If memory serves (and I am getting older:-D) I can span the local disk drive that the operating system sits on.

Anyone have a link or how to so that I am not stumbling from memory?

I do not want to overhaul this server. I do need to extend the flimsy 16 gb drive though to as 100 gb drive that I will sit inside. I am not sure that I can clone the server OS to the other larger driver either. Something in my head tells me not to try it. I just don't think that it will work the same as a workstation. I just don't have a reason. I may be wrong.

However, I think spanning is the quickest way to extend the OS drive.

    What do you think?

    TIA

Are you really going to make me go to the expert forum? Really?;)

I wouldn't want to span the drive. If one drive dies, you are out of luck. You can try to clone the drive. Or rebuild the server on a larger drive.

You didn't say if this machine has a RAID array or not. If it's a single drive for the OS,
clone the drive and resize the partition. JBOD setups are a dangerous way to store data, especially on a file server.

Most versions of Acronis can clone and resize partitions. Because it's Server 2003 you don't need the latest version that does Vista/7 partitions.

If you have any Western Digital drives in the machine there is a free version of Acronis on WD's site that will work.

    Good luck!
