I have a pc on my network running win2k where the server service is corrupted and won't start therefore I can't get updates to it. Does anyone know a way to restore this without reloading windows?

What error are ye getting when you attempt to start the service. Also, check the event viewer once you attempt to start the service.

Both these show in event viewer

    Type: Error
    Source: Server
    Error: Event ID: 2508
Description: The server service was unable to load the server driver.

    Next message in Event log:

    Type: Error
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Error: Event ID: 7023
Description: The Server service terminated with the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.

When I try to start the server service manually I get the following error message: Could not start the Server service on local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks.

Try re-installing Service Pack 4. From what I've researced so far, this may help out.

I did that yesterday with no result. I may just give up and re-install windows. Hate to go that far but by the time this is figured out I could have it re- installed and configured.
