Is it just me, or are they getting ridiculous??

I called Verizon last night because our router wireless signal has been going in and out. The good news is that they are coming out today to replace the router. The bad news...the timeframe of the visit....

    8am-7pm!! lmao...wha??

I actually started laughing and asked him if he was kidding. He started laughing too and says I wish I were.

They do call your cell phone before so you don't have to hang out at home for 11 hours, but wtf.

My ISP is Telenet.be and when we moved house 6 months ago it took 3 weeks and 5 visits to get the whole setup (TV/internet/telephone) working so we were housebound.
They think you have nothing else to do but wait for them.

    Jeez...that's worse than mine, Bill.

At least they are coming the day after I called.

Thing is, I could set the stupid thing up on my own, but they don't let you do that.

Not to mention I am going to have to disconnect my linksys I have connected to their router before they get here because you aren't supposed to do that either. LOL

    Yep we were the same.
They said if you set it up yourself (i had all the parts) it would void the warranty.
I am glad it is now working perfectly (touch wood)

And you know whats going to happen:)
You will sit waiting for them to call all day, then when you go to spend a penny the door bell will ring:-D

Of course it will! That's how it always happens. :-D

'Spend a penny." :-D Took me a couple of mins to remember what that meant!

Don't you wish they were as flexible with time when it was time to pay your bill?

lol...."I'll pay you anytime between now and 2 months from now. But don't worry, I'll call first before I do" :-D

Be glad it's not Comcast...they give you a similar time frame (which is usually at a minimum of four business days after I call for service), promise to call, then call you the NEXT day because they showed up and you weren't there.

Every time I point out that they were supposed to call me, I'm told they do that "as a courtesy" and it's not required, and that I'm supposed to make sure someone is here for the entire duration of the time frame.

I've started subtracting what I would have made had I gone to work from my monthly bill every time I have to wait for them, since I, unlike them, do not get paid if I don't show up to do my job.

Oh, believe me, I know about Comcast and their 4-7 day later service calls. It's why I'm now with Verizon.

The last straw for me with Comcast was having them tell me that it would take them 5 days before they could drop a new cable box off at my house. I said you have to be kidding me. There are at least 5 Comcast trucks that drive by my house a day.

    Anyway...

Normally when i call my ISP it's a 3 day wait but they give you an AM or PM time frame but the crazy thing is when they built these apartments (20 in all)last year there was no infrastructure so my first call was for a cable to the building, the reply "that's not our job it's for the builders"so we lost a week getting the cable in next call was for installation they came at the appointed time but the main cable on the street was not connected,3 days later the cable was connected so i call again for installation, the engineer arrives and does the job and all was sweetness and light for 4 days, then no telephone so call again and wait another 3 days, job done, 2 hours later no cable TV call again (GSM)and am told it is another engineer that deals with this, and so it went on.

My reply to the last call was when he comes tell the engineer to take the whole thing away and i will go with satellite!
3 hours later an engineer is at the door, fixed everything and gave me a envelope with a receipt for 3 months free service TV, phone and internet.
I have not had any trouble since.

Ahhhh, the joy of being able to threaten them with competition! :-D

For the longest time, Comcast was the only game in town here. Needless to say, they have lost a ton of customers since Verizon Fios has come in.

I'm pretty lucky, they come the next day AM or PM. The last time they didn't even come in the house, the fiddled with something on the pole and *bingo*. Just came by the house ask if all was OK. They can see everything from their offices.

Kinda the norm these days in the UK are those timeframes, you wait in all day and its 5 mins to 7pm and they turn up, PITA when you have taken a day off work to wait for them.

And that works? Seems like I've done that at some point in my life and ended up paying penalties. :(

Sad how reliant we are on internet. It's the only reason they can get away with that type of customer service.

Hell, if my phone went out for some reason, I could probably deal with that better than I would not having internet.

Luckily, in this case it's just the wireless on their router. My other router was working perfectly. lol...I have since unplugged that and am now going wired for internet.

Reasons that they cannot narrow down the time any further:

1: Lawyers, giving a time constitutes a non-binding verbal contract, and they aren't allowed to initiate any contract that 37 lawyers have not already gone over.
2: Bad weather, much as they try, they have no control over the weather.
    3: Meteor strikes
    4: Donut shop closures
    5: Astrology
    6: Astronomy
7: Lawyers because no list is complete without two of these entries.
    8: Improper directions
9: Wrong address that they've been billing you at for X number of years.
10: Inexplicable rocking of parked service van.
    11: Laziness
    12: Lawyers
    13: The number 13
    14: Fuel costs
    15: Other visits
    16: Paperwork
17: Please be advised that we are aware of your problem and doing our best to resolve it in such a manner that it becomes someone elses problem. Thank you.

If you hadn't noticed, I'm not exactly Verizon's biggest fan.

So far, other than a total b**** that I talked to one time that must have been having a really bad day, I have had nothing but awesome service from Verizon.

I'll take an all day window for next day service call over Comcast's 5 days later service call with a shorter time window any day.

The guy who came out yesterday was great. Personable, fast, and most important, liked my dog (heh..joking, but that was pretty cool). He told me to keep the old router since it still worked (minus the wireless) in case something happened to the one he put in so that I'd have something. haha...told me not to tell anyone he was letting me keep it. I felt like saying 'like I didn't tell you I always have my linksys router hooked up to the this one and unhooked it an hour before you got here :-D).

Anyway, all's well in my wireless world now. LOL

Glad to hear it worked out for you, Laura!

As far as billing them for my time...no, it doesn't work. They always eventually make me pay. However I have had some very interesting conversations with supervisors in the billing department when they want to know how come I sent THEM a bill for the month rather than paying them (they almost always call). I've never had to pay fees (mainly because I flatly refuse and they will eventually remove them), but it unfortunately doesn't fix the problem.

But, if I want broadband, I have Comcast. *sigh*
