Oh? No problem here. SpywareGuard reports nothing. Spybot S&D find nothing, Ad-aware finds nothing.

Now, I didn't like the UI for Service Controller XP and I won't use it again (I know where Black Viper is, thanks) but I had no spyware issues.

You are misinformed and should be very sure before you point fingers. We removed it once because of spyware ad tested it completely before posting and its clean. You may have gotten an older verion, but you certainly did not get a spyware ridden version from US.

not that MA isn't thorough, but I concur.. I just downloaded, installed the software and scanned for adware/wpyware using the usual barrage of anti-spyware utilities and came up empty..

I use A spyware program called Scan Spyware and it seems ( to this point anyway) pick up better than SpyBot and Ad-aware (of which I also use). After I install a program I always run a sweep of my system and of the 3 spyware programs Scan Spyware was the only one to pick up what it called a high risk file called VX2.betterinternet. I cleaned the system ran Service controller XP again same thing. Uninstalled the program cleaned my system...reinstalled Service Controller XP.....VX2.betterinternet pop up again. Did a search and found a bit of info on it (which is below). I don't like pointing fingers myself but apparently this is hard to find and all I wanted to do is inform.

VX2.betterinternet and Bundleware Infestations on the Rise

Thewatcher writes "Over the past month, I have seen an increase in infestations by a group called Bundleware.com which with the signature of Ad-aware calling it VX2.BetterInternet objects. Until last night, I believed it was wrong to label Bundelware with the VX2 Transponder signature as their methods were different from what I could see. Not so now however!

After running tests on one of their programs called SpyBan from SpyBan.net I now see why so much of the Better Internet Win32 BI Application and Bi Transponder variants show up with object comments pointing to Bundleware, Look2Me, and SimilarSingles. It is because that at the time of installing any software from that belongs to Nictech Networks, the first thing it does is access the Internet at the time of install and install one of the cab files directly from abetterinternet.com.

I officially add Nictech Networks and their sites to my Transponder Gang Listings.

NetPal of Mindset Internactive that had once worked with the VX2 Transponders are also again foisting the Bi transponder variants as is Nictech Networks. Once the Better Internet Transponders are installed they start using their own ad servers from abetterinternet.com and offeroptimizer.com (Both being owned by the VX2 Corporation aka Better Internet Inc. aka Direct-Revenue.com).

Not sure what that ramble was about, but the program is clean. Case closed.

Ok, got it. Heres the problem. Having a program say you have spyware does not mean its not. I have downloaded other programs before that said I had spyware on a clean install. Your choice of spyware program is no different:

It says I also have that as well as Grokster, Alexa and a couple others I do not.

    From HERE:

    Product: ScanSpyware
    Domains: scanspyware.net
Comments: aggressive advertising (1); false positives work as goad to purchase; Ad-aware knockoff [A: 6-26-04 / U: 6-26-04]

Stick with AdAware6and Spybot S&D. Buy Spysweeper or PestPatrol,if it's worth your money for the security, they are the real thing, not an overpriced freeware knock-off. I've got ServiceController XP from here and it's clean for me, too.

What exactly is Service Controller XP and what does it provide? Is it similar to the upcoming Service Pack 2 for XP? Also, has the final version od SP2 come out yet? I don't want to take my chances with the beta... Thanks

It's basically a widget that combines services.msc and the service configuration suggestions from http://www.blackviper.com/.
