My hard drive crashed today so I formatted it and re-installed windows. I started updating things including service pack 1 and then the 60 updates after it. After that I installed service pack 2 and rebooted my computer. It seemed to be loading fine but when it got to the windows screen, it looked all messed up like I picked a bad resolution or something. I did change my resolution to 1280x1024 earlier and it looked just fine. I haven't installed my video card drivers yet though. I tried booting in safe mode and vga mode, I do not have on-board video that I could use if the video card is the problem. I hope there is something I can do without re-installing windows again.

    Thank you.

    Hi

I would install your Chipset Drivers and as you have mentioned you have not installed the GFX card drivers, I would install those to see if the poor colour is removed.

Just an FYI, you dont need to Install MS SP1, just install SP2, SP2 has all the components of SP1

You must have misunderstood what I meant. I actually couldn't get into windows. I could just get to the screen that says Windows XP Professional, which locked up and looked strange. Since then, I have formatted my hard drive again and I tried it again. I installed the video card drivers after installing net framework 1.1, even though it said I needed 2.0, it went through anyway. After that, I tried re-installing my video card drivers in case there was something that didn't install right the first time. After I did that the same thing happened as before. It was the most recent catalyst driver, so I'm thinking I need a new video card. To give you an idea, it looked something like this: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5331/xperrorch2.jpg

If you look in Display Properties, what screen resolution is it saying you have ?
