I think my computer has a virus or is possessed. It has been running sooo slow lately and then a couple days ago, all of my services got turned off somehow (I'm running Windows 2000). It reboots by itself randomly. The autoprotect and email scanning options won't stay checked in Norton antivirus. I've scanned it with Norton and Mcaffee in regular and safe mode, the online trend micro virusscan and Antivir. I've used every utility in Norton Systemworks. I've used Spybot, CCleaner and Adaware. When I went to the Windows Update, it said I needed 3 things:

Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB841873)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB867801)
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3, English Version

It after downloading them, it sat there for about 15 minutes trying to install them, then I got this message:
    ___________________
SL3D.tmp - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services : Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

    Process id=0x33c (828), Thread id=0x358 (856).

Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

It took me a couple more tries but I got the first 2 to install but I still get that error when I try to install the .NET Framework Service Pack.

    Any ideas what is up?

A lot of people are getting that error installing .net framework from WU.

Its not related to your reboots.

Right click on My Computer > Properties >Advanced Tab >Startup and Recovery Settings >Uncheck Automatically restart.

Next time, instead of rebooting, you will get an error.

    Post it.

Oh, OK...in my paranoid mind, I thought that maybe a virus or trojan could try to prevent you from doing windows security updates like they can disable your virus programs.

While I'm waiting for my system to crash, what do you think of the services turning off by themselves? I didn't even think it could run that way. First, I went to listen to music but I got an error so I went to look the error up on the internet but I couldn't connect so I went to check the event logs and got more errors. Thought I was going crazy. Finally figured out that it was the services but I don't know how they got turned off.

The thing that is the worst is the slowness. I click to open a program but nothing happens for 20+ seconds - then it opens up. It never used to be this way.

I have 2 hard drives - a 16gb with 3gb free and a 19gb with 5 gb free. My processor is a Pentium2...it says 448mhz - is that right? Sounds like a weird number. 192 megs of ram.

I do need ram and the processor could be higher but it shouldn't be like this. It has gotten much slower lately and I have very little running in the background.
