setting hard drive as master

hi
i was wondering if someone could help tell me how to set my hard drive as primary master in the bios settings?

the hard drive is working but showing up as secondary master.
alot of my programs are being a pain lateley and only difference is the new hard drive and it showing up as secondary instead of primary

ime running windows M.E and its a 80gig seagate barracuda dont no if that helps

 

Is it jumpered correctly? Was it recently replaced to be the Master or added as a Slave?

 

ye the jumper is set as master .it was replaced to be the master its just the bios thats not seting as master

 

Is it on the right part of the cable? Typically, the master is set on the farther of the two connections on the IDE cable. If it were on that, and your BIOS was set to auto detect, it should read the disk on the END of the IDE as primary master and the one on below as secondary.

 

ye its on the end of the cable .

maybe not auto detect cant see where to check that

 

My advice would be to try, in this order:

1. Change BIOS to not autodetect, but have master at position 1 and slave at 2
2. Change BIOS to autodetect, and place HDDs on cable select. Place master at end and slave at secondary.
3. Swap the IDE cable, and try the above.
