setting the priority high for a game in the task manager, ok?

hi,
i play css a lot,
and i was wondering if going to the task manager and setting the hl2.exe priority high make my game faster,
and i was also wondering if making the priority high for the explorer.exe make it faster, because explorer.exe is the thingy that makes us see what we see in the screen,
one more thing, if i set the priority low for norton, will it makes my game any faster, because i heard the norton can make games realy realy slow, and i dont know how to turn it off permenantly while playing so... if you know how plz tell me.

i also want to know how to make it automatically changed, like make it automatically realtime priority when you start it, not have to change it everytime on the fly,

well first of all setting a game to high priority i have had no trouble with it as well as getting more fps,:-D

as for setting explore.exe to high dont do it since it may make your computer very unstable

 

This really is only helpful for windowed applications, and I do understand some people play games windowed.

However, your CPU is going to be capped at 100% (or 50% for each core in a dual core system, unless the game supports multi-cores) for a fullscreen game in the foreground, so setting this priority level is kind of redundant.

There are programs that can do it for you, or you can make a batch file.

Simply open notepad, and type start /high "path to game executable" and save it as game.bat somewhere. Then launch your game through it.

You decrease the stability of your system playing with priorities, by the way. Explorer.exe is not the only one who can crash ya.
