need help setting up a network for a PS3 and a Xbox 360.
i have a at&t dsl with a motorola modem and a linksys network everywhere
NH1005-WM 5-port hub. when i connect my pc and one of the game consoles to the hub my pc is the only thing with a connection. i have searched around and found several topics about this altho helpful most of the help topics skipped alot of inbetween steps for those who are new to setting up a network.

how exactly is your network set up?

do you have your modem going into your linksys wan port and you connect your computers/game consoles to the switch ports?

its not setup but how it tells me to is plug my modem to the first port on the hub my pc to the second and any additional to 3-5 not really clear what the uplink port is.

you shouldnt use a hub when youre trying to play video games and what not. the way a hub works is it just takes a signal received in one port and forwards it out all other ports. a switch makes it more efficient by reading the MAC address and forwarding the signal out the correct port.

this is beneficial to you because when youre playing a game online, youre constantly sending signals out of your console to your network and out to the internet. using a switch could reduce the chances for really bad lag and whatnot.(to keep it simple)

now in your first post it said you have a linksys home routing device.
what you want to do with your modem is plug the ethernet cable into the uplink port on your linksys router. the uplink is basically the internet port. you'll have 4 other switch ports on the device you can use to plug your computers/video games in to.

ok this is my third linksys product i went out and got a linksys model BEFSR4141 ver.4.3 router. i am really starting to think linksys is a mickey mouse product. you would think that at least one out of three would work. anyway, all the lights on the router showed a good connection the pc was in the first spot the modem was in the internet spot all was good according to the router got to the last step in the setup cd and got a message saying the pc could not detect the router.

omg out of three "tec support forums" including Linksys tec forums, that has been the best advice i have gotten.

sorry dude but i was being sarcastic. im not new to the pc, im new to network settings. checking and installing drivers was my first action.

anyway everything seems to be good i have a connected status, speed is at 100.0 mbps. still get the can not detect router at the end of the setup.

do i need to make a new connection and bridge it?
i can set my modem to bridge but only power, ethernet, and dsl lights are on and i can't get any responses from it. what do i do after i change modem modes?

If using pppoe for your dsl connection, which you probably are. You need to bridge the dsl modem, have your router set up to do the auth via pppoe and your username and password for your service. Linksys is a fine home user product works great for all the home installs i do. We just need to get everything set right. Your dsl modem needs to have a enet cable from it to the wan port on the linksys. Then the linksy has enet going to each device your trying to get online.
