Setting up and using XP fax

I have a Lexmark X3430 that has a built in fax program and I know XP has it's own. I tried to install and set up XP's fax program and thought I had done everything it said right. When I try to send a fax everything seems to go ok till it starts to dial. I keep getting "no dial tone or phone line in use" message. I have a Intel PRO/100 VE card.I never used this before ,usually fax stuff from work but now I'm need it more and more at home.I have At&t phone with DSL. If you need anymore info let me know.I don't even hear it when it's supposed to be dialing.

 

Sorry, DSL or Cable connection does not work with XP Fax, unless something new came out, last I read you need VoIP and that was iffy at best.

Think it would be a pain to switch between dial up and DSL just to fax something. My solution was just to use a all-in-one...need the scanner, printer anyway.

You can't use dsl or cable for faxing.So,it's standard procedure for this.

Wouldn't just pluging the phone cord into the computer work? And the modem I have is Intel 537EP V9x DF PCI modem.And a big thanks for that free fax site. Gonna try it in about an hour.I know-read- that you can't use you dsl-modem to fax.just don't work. But what about unpluging my phone and putting it into the computer? That's not work?

Yes it will work.

BUT maybe you need to unplug your dsl conection for awhile,so when you send the fax to not interfere with the connection.
