Setup.exe

When I turned on my computer yesterday I noticed that it was lagging. I looked at my task manager and found a "setup.exe" using a lot of memory. I shut it off.

Afterwards, my laptop said I was low on disk space. So, I deleted several files to free some space. Later on, I get the same notice on low disk space. I noticed that every now and then, the amount of free disk space I have is changing, usually getting smaller. I also noticed that "setup.exe" would sometimes try to start running again and I would have to close it out.

I left my computer on all night. When I looked at my desktop this morning, there's an IE icon and a "settings.dat" icon. When I opened Chrome, my default browser, it asked if I would like to make Chrome my default. I'm guessing IE is the default.

Did IE install itself or something? I'm concerned about the IE and the eating away of free disk space. And I'm not sure if those two are connected or not.

    Thanks for any help.

Which Operating System are you using?
Approximately how much space has gone missing?

I'm running XP. I freed up 2.85 GB of space. But when I check later in the day it tells me that I have 2.65 free space. But sometimes it'll move up to 2.7 GB of space. So it seems that it's eating like 100 or 200 MB of space everytime I check.
