Help! Although I found another thread listing the same problem I have, I can't understand the solution. :-o Here's the thread, in case you need to refer to it. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=26792&highlight=_SETUP.DLL:-o

Whenever I try to install my child's game software, I get this message: "Setup requires _SETUP.DLL and ISRES.DLL (located in _SETUP.LIB) in order to operate properly. Please ensure these files are located with SETUP.EXE." I'm using Windows XP. I know this game worked on Windows 98, and I'm pretty sure it worked on our XP for a while.

I'm going to check his other games, as we've been having problems with many of them, and it may be the same problem or something just slightly different. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! I'll try that tonight, after the little one is in bed. I'll let you know how it works out. You're an angel!

OK, I looked at it, and EEEEEK! I'm a neophyte, who can't imagine doing this. Isn't there just something easy I can download that will have the answer to all these old software games we have? Don't get me wrong; I AM grateful! But, as a tired mom, I'm scared to death of setting up a "virtual computer." I tried doing the 1st step listed, using the "compatibility tab," but it didn't work. Should I just plan on getting newer games?

Hi whitequeen, are these games on a disk or are they downloads?

If they are downloaded games; have you moved the files about recently?

Have you ran any Antiivirus or AntiMalware scans that have found anything recently?

These are old games on disks. And my computer is a homemade IBM clone, built by a friend of a friend. Recently, it died, and the guy said I had picked up a virus, so he completely reformatted (I guess that's the world) everything. I still have Windows XP, though. But I noticed that some of these games were good for Windows 98 and 95, so they're pretty old.
