I just installed a new hard drive on this laptop and after about 8 hours the pc just shut down on me. After turning the pc back on I started the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (since it is a WD hard drive) and if froze at 90% on the short test and went no further. So after about 30 minutes I closed it and ran sfc /scannow to see if it found any issues. It did come up with one problem that it could not fix.
The cannot repair file is : 2014-08-29 18:13:12, Info CSI 00000192 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"settings.ini" of Microsoft-Windows-Sidebar, Version = 6.0.6002.18005, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch

I did do a quick search and from what I could find it had to do with the Windows Vista Sidebar. Well, I never use the sidebar the backup I use was from just a couple months ago and this pc is a quite a few years old now. It is running Vista Home Premium and has an AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 ghz processor with 3 GB of RAM and a 32 bit operating system.

I am not sure if this is something to worry about or not or how to fix it. I am doing the updates that have occurred since the backup was a couple months old that I used to do the Acronis recovery for the new hard drive.

I am also a bit concerned that the diagnostics test froze at 90% on a brand new (less than 24 hour old) hard drive.

    Any suggestions ???

    Thanks :)

Yes, this is something to be concerned about. If a new hard drive has problems immediately, return it and get a replacement.

I was about to contact the company where I purchased the hard drive as well as WD but decided to try running it again and oddly enough, I ran it again and ran the WD hard drive test and no problems were found and there are no issues with the sfc /scannow when it ran either.

Very Weird.. But all is working just fine. Thanks :)
