    Sometimes I really hate Microsoft.

I'm setting up my fokes new computer and I'm trying to access the hard drive of the old computer thru the network so they can migrate the files over as they need them (they have stuff all over the place).
The new computer is windows 7, the old is XP
both computers are in the default WORKGROUP workgroup
I can remote desktop into the old one (good thing as it now has no monitor), I've set the entire c drive a share (read only) and for now disabled it's firewall. I installed the Link Layer hotfix as one site suggested. I've also set known passwords on both the primary login account and the guest account (xp to xp I had the best luck authenticating with a password on the guest account). From another XP comptuer on the network I can access the share but not from the windows 7 machine.
On the 7 machine I've left the homegroup and disabled both the homegroup services as I also found suggested. I also did as someplace suggested and set no password required but despite what that site said I think that's only for accessing the 7 for xp.

On the 7 machine I do \\xpcomputer\c and it prompts me for a password
    I've tried xpcomputer\guest and guest password, i've tried xpcomputer\xplogin and it's password, again I can't get in.

I can however get into the 7 machine from the xp machine.

    Please help

I'm really close to just telling them to use a thumb drive.

Have you tried setting up an administrator account on the XP machine with the same ID and password as the user account on the Windows 7 machine?

Yes, when I setup the new machine I used the exact same login information as the old machine.

Went to try it last night and it has magically started working. I have no idea why. Best guess is one of the 150- windows updates the Win 7 machine installed (i'd clear the list then a few hours latter another 30-60 would show up) changed something on the win 7 machine so it would work.
