Oh my goodness - I don't know where to begin. I already have about 100 posts here about my tech experiences with DULL, I mean, Dell. But when a technician actually laughed at me as said, "Are you telling me you can't put these parts in yourself?" that was BAD.

What she was referring to was when I said NO I would not be satisfied with them sending me ALL the missing parts to a tower that was supposed to be my exact replacement tower (missing CD-Drive, audio, network, etc, etc, cards, etc...) As if I was supposed to build the "empty metal box" they sent me myself...that was probably the last straw.

That next week one of the comics in the paper was running a series about DULL Computers and mocking Tech support and Bangalore and fake Indian accents...too funny. I should see if I can find it online.

I think my worst tech support experience was with Rockstar Games. Now, I'm a fan of their console games, but their PC games .. have a lot of problems. One day my boss and I decided to purchase GTA 3 when it was released for the PC a few years ago, and we figured we would install it on one of the PCs at the office so we could play when we had some free time. Well, didn't really work as planned. We tried installing it on two different PCs and we got a few different errors on each PC. A few new laptops had came in a day earlier or so, we then decided to install it on one of the laptops and we recieved errors with that too. We called tech support to see if they could help us install it on one of the PCs we had gotten errors on, but they couldn't help us at all. So we told them we had a laptop that we tried to install it on and they said "GTA 3 isn't compatible with laptops". Haha, that was one of the funniest things I had ever heard .. we got so many errors while trying to install, they couldn't help us with any and then they pull that comment out.

Ok Sir, Lets Turn the Computer On -- PRICELESS.

I have problems but I've never been that dense. I do hope you didn't Laugh Maniacally Out Loud?!

yeah i would imagine its hard not to laugh too hard so that he/she can hear you. That would be terrible. It also gives a nice story to talk about at lunch time with the other tech support people. Get around, eat lunch, and share stupid tech stories like that lol.

Actually, we aren't allowed to share stories anymore.

    We were warned about it.

    A customer must have overheard.

I certainly don't expect everyone to be a Computer Tech., but I never cease to be aghast at some humanoid's flat out refusal to event think.

I frequently get stuff like: - "What's a mouse?"; "Which left button are you talking about?"; "I can't find the 'any' key! I turned my computer off and my letter disappeared; what does the power switch do?; do I need to connect my printer to make it work?; can my mouse catch a virus? etc., etc.

"From the WordPerfect Help Desk" -- you're calling it "this old classic" and it's saying it's true and the person is even suing...is this one of those "urban legends" that's just a rumor...or is it true? Just curious.

It's very funny and I would want to say the same thing if I was the tech support person...but....

This is why I don't drink coffee -- you guys seem to do a lot of spitting out of liquids while sitting at your computer - very dangerous (for the equipment, I mean).

    This is hysterical! :)

Wow, not surprised to see people selling them on e-bay. I don't really like to deal with e-bay, only because I don't have a Paypal account, but I don't think I would pay for a free invite anyway. That's awesome that you have an account though

I say it is a "classic" since it has been around for a long time. However, here is the Snopes reference and its current status is false, i.e., a rumor: http://www.snopes.com/humor/business/wordperf.htm

    Them: "Oh"

I was working with my dad to try to fix my uncle's computer (turns out that it was totally filled with junk and spyware). The problem was that whenever they when to log onto msn about three minutes after they logged on they immediately got a bunch of popups and got disconnected. Well since they hadn't been online for a while there msn subscription got paused so that they wouldn't have to pay while they were having problems. To renew there subscription I had to call MSN and ask them renew the subscription. My dad go on the phone and the tech support asked him what version of MSN my uncle had on his computer. My dad immediately replied in a cool sly kinda way,

"its the one with the butterfly if that helps"

...i then took hold of the phone and solved the problem with the tech support. all the while trying not to laugh out loud. lol

ok my uncle had just got a brand new dell laptop. (for those who don't know i am the geek in my family no body else can even load a program, not jokin.) anyway he gets this nice dell laptop. when he gets it he has some one convince him he doesn't need the dial-up modem in the laptop so he lets this guy take it out and take off the drivers and what not (basically he stole the modem from my uncle for his laptop) but i didn't know about it so i couldn't stop him. anyway my uncle decides since all he does is check his e-mail once a day all he needs is dial up, my recommendation since he never uses his dsl. so he orders a new modem and i tell him how to install the driver for it becuase i was out of town. well he told me had done it just like i said but it wouldn't show the modem existed. ok so i went over there and he told me to call dell since he had done eveything right. ok so i call dell and i get this sorta nice guy named rick, so me and rick start doing the usual, checking drivers and what not, so none of that works and we start going into the deep os stuff. and then rick has me start taking the laptop apart checking connections, after 8 hours on the phone he tells me there is nothing more to do so send it in. ok now i'm pissed off for wasting 8 hours on the phone with austin, yeah somehow i got through to austin. anyway my uncle sends in the laptop and gets it back the next week and they said the driver had shown it was installed but had not installed correctly. yeah i was pissed off for about 2 months after that for wasting 8 hours when i shoud have known to uninstall and re-install, so it was my own stupid ness that wasting a day of my life.

    eric

Lol, Neo's story was pretty funny.

But damn eric, that sucks. I really can't stand tech support, never really been on the phone with one for over an hour. But I rarely call anyway, because I don't really trust any tech support ..

  32. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

yeah me neither. The only reason i call them is if something depends on them doing something. in my case i needed them to change the password and subscribe my uncle again to msn.
