Shared printer problems.....

We have an HP 940C printer that we want to share with a Sony GRS570 laptop (XP OS). and an older HP PC Pavilion 8175 ,Win95 OS, 96 meg ram, 6gig hd dr, 4 gig free. Am usinga a Belkin a/b switch with parallel cables. Now here's the situation. Laptop (XP) works great with switch. Printer physically works (slow) with the HP PC but the print is so light as to not be able to read it. Have new print heads and the print is fine with the laptop. I have updated the drivers in the PC. and the test at the finish of the installation is great (color etc). However when I try to print a test page from printer properties page it is unreadable, as is printing documents from word etc. I have bypassed the sw box and gone directly from PC to printer with a known good cable, no change. One other thing, it is my understanding the priinter orig worked well when used with the HP PC before changing it to the lapto. Now the resolution is no doubt simple...please explain in detail . Just to update............reinstalled drivers to PC and did a few other little things and BINGO!. It works. Sometimes it's best to work things out on your own I guess

Why?.....................does the printout from the PC seems a smaller font and not as bold as the laptop. I think both are set similiar. Is this worth persuing?
