I am wanting to share my broadband connection with my parents that live next door. By next door, I'm talking around 400 foot between my computer and my parents computer.
I have a wireless network setup in my home, that also has the connections on the access point for wired connections.
Is it possible to get my parents connected to my network, either wireless or wired?
Thanks so much for your help.

I guess that depends , do they live in the same house or in a diffrent house next door? When you get on their PC do you see a wireless signal from your router 400ft away? If so they may just be able to connect wirelessly by inputting your WEP or WPA key your router has set into their PC wifi settings.

a wired connection i beleive can only go 100 feet from the router at the most, is that correct?

you can also set up an access point, which will make the signal go farther

100 meter (330ft) is the max for cat5 cable as far as the standards go,
I have seen 400ft+ working fine.

    Hi All,

I want to share my wifi with a little lady here in my complex. I went to her apartment and got on her laptop, went into her connections, and there was my Wifi. She gets 3-4 bars, very good. But when I went ahead and punched in my security code, it brought up another window to enter again, so I did, and got a message saying password mismatch.

It is my "key" though, and that is exactly the one I use that connect me to my Charter router and modem (separate, not a 2 in 1 deal).

Can someone help me figure this one out? She should be able to hook up fine I would think? Thank you much, in advance, denise

Hi Earthling, I did check that on her laptop, that isn't it;) Thanks though, that's one I am known for forgetting to check.

I just reset both my modem and router, and we'll see if she can log in. I'll be back to let you know;) So her and I are trying again now;)

By the way, both my phone and Nook Tablet are connected fine, no issues with this passkey.

Hmm, well, we brought her laptop over from her apartment, and it works fine if we plug in the security key. So now she is set, but she is headed for her apartment and we'll see if it just connects, like it should once the key is in;)

Ok, I don't know why we couldn't hook her up from her own apartment, but by coming in here and putting in passkey, then taking her laptop back to her place, she is all hooked up;) Thanks anyway you guys! If anyone knows what may have caused this, would love to know and solve the mystery, LOL!! denise

    Hi Tim,

Sorry I didn't answer this earlier. I did have her up and running but she says she is getting knocked off line now. I think it's just too far from my router and modem. Too many walls I guess, plus one, floor below me.

Thanks for your info, you must mean that there was some sort of interference from another router etc. I guess. We were trying to sign into mine, which we could see in her "available networks" list.
