Sharing over LAN

My wife and I share big files between our computers, and instead of using external hard drives I want to setup this with a program over the internet.


She has a Windows XP computer and I have 7. So I don't know if I could set up something through the network.



Maybe something with FTP, but I don't know if that would be to complicated for her......

 

Do you have a router? Are both computers connected to it? If not, how are you connecting to the Internet with the two computers?

If you have a router, then you have the capability to enable file sharing and share files between computers without going out to the Internet.

 

Is this sharing over the internet or sharing via intranet(home network).

 

Yes we are both connected through a router.

Question is how to set it up, and will work with her computer having Windows XP, and mine having 7?(as I said in my first post)

That guide shows what to setup on my Win7 computer, but not on her XP.

Is it sort of the same?

 

Also I do not see her computer come up under the network.....

From there down it lists how to set-up the XP machine.
