Please take these down. They are filled with malware, hijack toolbars etc. I just got the conduit search protect toolbar off my computer (not the easiest thing to do), which i'm unfortunately familiar with after helping a friend do the same thing. I thought this was a safe site and so did many others apparently. It also installed vbates, adware.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/x64_components.html,
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/win7codecs.html

After searching the Shark007 forums i saw users who had experience the same thing. There were even replies from a guy associated with the site who said he is aware of this and that you need to perform some type of BS workaround to not install these like many other popular softwares. I tried to post on their forums but it conveniently has a review process and i know my post won't get through that!

Other popular softwares do not install programs like conduit. It is a malware hijacker plain and simple. Take this down.

    Hi

I know of these additions and sadly for many free software applications they do come with 3rd party software and in the main you are warned and a custom install is needed to untick these additions, I have just installed these codecs to test and you as the end user need to custom install (not as I would like made too plain)

So in the Shark Codecs you have to skip, untick as the install progresses to the addons you do not want. I did not in the install of x64 after unticking the options gain Conduit, did check with my malware apps and by experience of the registry, nothing installed with the x64 version of these codecs on my PC.

If you still have issues with this software then please contact the owners of this site HERE so basically tim @ Majorgeeks.com

Third party software is sadly, now the NORM. You did not uncheck it. We mark everything in bold and red italics to point it out so I take personal offense to you calling us unsafe because of your mistake.

I just installed it (again) and had nothing added to my system after unchecking the software. We can't be any clearer on this.

Hey, if it were a regular old toolbar, i wouldn't care. Go ahead and install conduit and tell me what you think. I don't appreciate you calling your site safe if there is even a possibility of this crap being installed. I was just posting this to inform people. I can go somewhere else, that doesn't bother me. If you want to associate with people who engage in this type of behavior that is your choice.

I installed this and followed the install instructions and opted out of any 3rd party add-on and gained NO Conduit install, I even checked the registry on my PC for signs of Conduit and nada.

I didn't install Conduit via this codec following my guidance, 3rd party addons are a natural occurrence of freeware these days, some have tune up apps etc but the end users needs to read the install instructions as most good ones will warn you of 3rd party software being installed, so a custom or advanced install option is the way to go.

We do mitigate the risk so 3rd party addons as much as we can and rule out the nasty's, now in the case of Shark007 codecs, no matter where you download them from you will get the same install, if you need 3rd party codecs then you need them for a reason and to play non standard media, as Windows will play all media that's standard.

Hey that's your choice and well I appreciate it, I have no issues with the downloads listed here but that's me and from over 10yrs using this site... many random other sites I do not trust, unless its the original developers site.

Did you listen to what he said? It is the norm dang near everywhere now. The exception to this is paid software, or open-source.

I get why you are dismayed, but its nobody's fault but your own for not reading the installation instructions.

There is simply no way to miss this stuff unless you just blindly clicked through. I'd liken it to speeding. The excuse that you didn't see the speed limit sign does not excuse you from the consequences.

It is unfortunate that the freeware/shareware world has come to this, but it has. It is not majorgeek's fault. Majorgeeks is safe, but nowhere does it say it is safe to not read what is being installed, or license agreements. Just like the speeder a cop stops, not paying attention doesn't excuse the consequences. Does that mean the road is less safe? Of course not. The speeder is what made it less safe.

Did you read what i wrote? I'm not blaming you that i installed it. You say your downloads are safe, that isn't true in my opinion. Safe downloads don't have things like that. I was just posting to inform people. Also, conduit is not like all other 3rd party software, don't mislead people who read this. It is a hijacker and it isn't easy to get rid of. Spybot and malwarebytes both detect it as viruses and i had to run both to get it off there. I dare either of you to install it if you feel that way. I'll say it again, if these are the people who you choose to associate with, that is on your conscience. I know i couldn't do it.

So basically, you think Majorgeeks should not be able to compete with other shareware sites by purging all of these partner-bundled applications? So basically close shop and go home.

Majorgeeks does NOT host anything you cannot opt-out of. Can you say that of other places? That was a rhetorical question, I know you cannot.

As for conduit, I'll take your dare. I'll also have it cleaned off my system within 15 seconds. I wouldn't expect others to know that, but I would also expect them to read the installer information to avoid it.

Well, this conversation is ended however I will welcome you to have the last word and ask others to stop responding.

Simple fact is that if we removed everything that was bundled, there would be nothing left to list. It is what it is. If you want to go elsewhere, I understand but not only will you get the SAME thing, you might also get that websites OWN bundle before you get to the software developers bundle. Not fun. Most websites now use these "wrappers" and that's where your anger should be.

In closing, no one here is installing Conduit because we watch and we uncheck it as shown in the example above.

We are going round and round with you simply not admitting you overlooked the installer. There's the problem, it exists and it's not going away. I can;t say it's right or wrong, just the new business model and one we try to warn you about.

    NO ONE READS.

My conscience is clear. we run less ads, especially less "Download Now ads than other websites, we mark software as bundled, we don't offer our own wrapper (and we have turned down literally DOZENS of companies that would make us a lot of money) and we actually test our software before posting trying to pick the best. No one else can say all that.

Conduit is straight up malware that is harmful to peoples computers. You can't tell me that is what the type of thing that is included in all bundled programs. I know that. I've had plenty of toolbars and programs installed through error over the years as we all have.

The ones that are the worst are ones just like this. No uninstall or even directories, detected by virus programs, AND even that doesn't uninstall them fully sometimes requiring you to run two virus programs one after the other and then even to search google for a solution to finally get it off your computer. That isn't normal 3rd party software. Normal third party software doesn't change your home page, reroute your searches and web urls, and hypertext everything on the page. I know for a fact there are plenty of free softwares and programs that do not include things like that. That's why you won't install it willingly.

I'm not blaming you that i installed this. I've already said that. I do however take issue with your claim that your downloads are safe. If i can get something like that from one of your downloads it is not safe.

We can debate all day but it doesn't really matter to me. It is wrong that you have this download up. I'll tell that to you and i'll tell it to the a**hole responsible for making it. Everything else is semantics and excuses.

Thank you very much. As much as I would like to argue further, without people like you making mistakes and blaming other's, I would still be a truck driver. So, thanks again! You're the best!

    Matter is closed.
