Recently when I try to watch a video online or listen to music in iTunes/Windows Media Player it doesn't work and tells me that my shockwave flash plugin has crashed. After this happens I have to restart my computer to get shockwave to work again. This is very frustrating as my computer takes about 10 minutes to restart after shockwave crashes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling shockwave but it didn't work. My OS is windows 7 and my computer is less than 2 years old.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

And under the heading of "more things to try" I found the KLite Codecs pack several years ago, with some help from my friend and Software Guru.

Now I update my KLite Codecs like I update my AV and AS programs.
Those Codecs allow MS Media Player to play almost every A-V file known.
It's so much better than having a half dozen players and viewers on your PC.

I also try to keep my Shockwave and FlashPlayer up to date as well.

    Good Luck,

    Thanks,
I just tried uninstalling Shockwave but it gives me this message:
The system could not find the environment option that was entered.
It gave me the same thing when I tried to install it.

Also, what is a KLite Codecs pack?

I used the link that pwillener provided above. I've actually gotten that error message whenever I've tried to download anything or update my computer with Windows Update.

Something is wrong with your system; do you have antivirus software, is it up-to-date, and have you recently ran a full scan of your computer? (Meaning: are you sure that your system is free of any malware?)

I thought I explained that in post #3.
If you Google "KLite codecs" you'll get MANY responses.
This is just one of the many.

If you install the KLite Codec Pack, you can get rid of all those other viewers and players that inhabit your PC and are always wanting to update themselves.

I'm going to have to echo 'pwillener' in post #8. Something is definitely WRONG!

    Good Luck,
    :cool

Thanks for all the help guys, I did a system restore in safe mode because my computer was giving me the BSOD and restarting over and over. It seems like it's ok now

System Restore saves my bacon at least once a week, because of some PITA piece of crapola software, messing things up.
When System Restore isn't powerful enough to fix things, I resort to doing a Ghost Restore of my latest Ghost Backup Image File. I make those backup files at the very least, , once a week.

I'm glad you got back up and running. Now, back up your entire C: drive.

    Cheers!

Please..... don't get the apples and the oranges mixed up.

The KLite pack assists Windows Media Player to play just about every type of audio or video file imaginable, without you having to have Real Player, Quicktime, and a dozen other players on your PC.
It has nothing to do with Flash. That's a whole different matter.

    Sorry you're having problems.

    Good Luck,
    Shadow :)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

What browser are you using? If I'm not mistaken, Flash Player runs as an Active X component in Internet Explorer, whereas it runs as an extension in Firefox - you might try installing FF, see if your symptoms change.

I agree with pwillener: there are malwares that give these symptoms (Flash crashes, Windows Update problems, etc.) - you might consider going through the Malware Forum's Read & Run Me First, thread, perform all of the steps and post the required logs in a new thread in that forum.

That way, we can be sure your machine's clean before attempting to fix it.
