Ok, it's almost time for me to renew my AVG... With all the problems I've had this past year (not all related to AVG)... I am looking to get a new Anti-Virus program.

So, I need the opinions of the MG's here! What do you suggest? & this time I have to go with a free installation of one.

What do you think is the best... and WHY?? :confused The "WHY" part is important... so, please don't just put down the name you like... explain why you think it's better than AVG... or Avast... or whatever. :confused

Oh, I will NOT do Norton... unless someone can verify that it won't slow my system down.

Also, is there a program out there that will cover it all... Malware; Rootkits; Spyware; Viruses... etc.

In case you need to know, I have Vista for my OS. I do have Malwarebytes (or whatever it's called), free edition installed already... but if there's a packaged deal... that would be best.

All this make sense? Thanks for your time, LadyHarley :cool

Personally I like Avast. It's free also.

Consider PC Tools Anti-virus. Small in size and only runs one type 023 NT Service and two processes. User friendly interface. Functions like most all other anti-virus programs. Check their website for final details.

I use Avast! Home Edition(free). It has proven itself to be effective, low on resources, updates at least twice a day, checks for updates every four hours and has a good support forum. It is an anti-virus, anti-rootkit and anti-spyware application. It does need to be registered within sixty days of installation and once each year after that, a small price to pay for it's excellence.

That said, to meet this question: "Also, is there a program out there that will cover it all... Malware; Rootkits; Spyware; Viruses... etc."
DomLuc's suggestion of Comodo Internet Security may be better suited to your needs.

If you decide to switch from AVG to another, you will need to use the AVG Removal Tool(Uninstaller) and should run CCleaner Slim before installing the new application you've chosen.
