Shopping Suggestion(s)

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new (or reconditioned), smallish (10"-12", maybe 14" at most) FAST machine - WITH a STRONG HINGE (can't tell you how many laptops of only about 1 to 1 & 1/2 years of age I have lying around with broken hinges, and which are basically useless to me.

Security is a rather secondary issue, in that I plan to add my own layers of security.

So, FAST Performance and a good STRONG HINGE are my top two priorities...any/all suggestions/recommendations are GREATLY appreciated!

Thx...didn't find any used ones, but bought this one new ($800), but now will have to return it, as the Touchpad (Trackpad?) is awful, the keyboard is oddly busy (and TOO busy) and the W, A, S, & D keys are weirdly "clear", while all other keys are in traditional black.

I "think" the processor is fairly fast (not sure how to quantify that?), but the rest of this machine seems extremely mediocre (and not so "TUF", though who knows...I'm probably missing something, but I HAVE TO have a strong hinge (have lost more laptops than I can count on onr hand in the last 5-10 years due to totally trashed hinges).

Thx much...any opinion on Win 10 vs Win 11?

 

From my reading, it seems Win 11 is still problematic. If you buy something with Win 11, make sure you can downgrade (drivers provided) to install Windows 10.

Stick with 10 until they get 11 worked out. I've started putting a couple bucks a week away toward a new build when 10 is no longer supported. October 2025 will be here before you know it...
