Do you mean you are double clicking on a programs shortcut such as ccleaner or anti spyware app for example and the program is not opening?

what happens if you delete the shortcut and go into your start > all programs > right click the program you want a short cut to and > send to desktop (create shortcut)?

Does this then make the shortcut usable? let us know...I was only trying to suggest something but I could be way off base without knowing more information.

Hi Kestrel,I didn't mean clicking on the shortcut Icon. I created Shortcut Keys for some desktop Shortcuts like Ctrl +Alt + F for FireFox from the properties Windows of desktop shortcuts.

Does this help? If you deleted the shortcut icon from the desktop the key combination no longer works.

You could also give SlickRun a try. You would install it and setup a few keywords for your popular programs. It sits at the bottom of your screen above the taskbar. To use it mouse over to it an click it to enter your keyword or skip the mouse and hit the Windows key +Q and enter your keyword.

So once you set it up instead of hard to remember shortcuts Firefox could be Windows key+Q FF. Outlook Express becomes Windows key+Q Mail etc. Might be worth a look. Our regular member and frequent new program tester Bigbazza finds it invaluable.

Hi sach2, Thank you for the clue. As my desktop was cluttered I moved many shortcuts to an "Unused desktop shortcuts folder".

Another thing you could try is put the shortcuts back on your Desktop. Assign hotkeys to them. Then mark the desktop shortcuts as hidden (in the Properties menu of each shortcut under the General tab). This would allow you to unclutter your desktop and still use hotkeys.

Note: When I tested this it worked but I had to Refresh the desktop to make the hidden icons disappear.

I've got only 1 icon on my desktop and that is the recycle bin.

I just dragged the shortcuts on my desktop to 2 new folders that I named in My Documents and since I use these shortcuts frequently for maintenance etc, I put these 2 folders on the WinXP taskbar that is called Toolbars. Very handy and clean! A click on one of them brings up all the shortcuts in one particular folder. One is for maintenance stuff that I use weekly, the other is for occasional use for example Irfanview, disdefrag etc.
