I recently purchased an ATi Sapphire X800 Pro 256Mb PCI-E video card and on Newegg.com there was a review saying that I could "flash the bios with the bios from an X800 XT and open up all 16 pipes"

First of all, is this a risky thing to do? I read that as long as you make a backup, there is nothing to worry about as long as you do not reboot.

Second, is it worth the risk?

Third, what exactly do I do? What do I need?

Any help would be great. If someone tells me not to do it, I most likely will not. I'm not all that advanced so if it isn't all that easy, I probably won't even attempt it. Thanks!

My opinion is this......if you have to ask this many questions about the subject? Then it's most likely not the path for you. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but you can destroy your card with one little mistake. I am sure that someone around here could probably help you with the process, but is it really worth the chance of fryin' your card?

Of course, once this is done, you have basically voided your warranty. So, if you fry it, you need to go and buy another.

I have unlocked my own videocard using the rivatuner and reading multiple forums on the best way to tweak it.

But, this is for Nvidia only.....

In addition, I hear that your video card can't be unlocked, unless you bought the card with VIVO.

If you have found a game that can slow down an 800xt,let me know what it is,it must look awsome,LOL,if its just to add a few fps on top of the 150fps or so you get now, your playing $400 russian roullette. :)

ok, every other place that I went to with installation tips never said anything about frying. I also heard that this card is impossible to flash, but i was just going from the guy on newegg's comment. Thanks all.

non vivo cards are laser cut finished; as in you wont be able to get the pipes unlocked because theyre cut open.
