Should I wait?

I'm beginning to develop my "shopping list" for a new computer that I'd like to build. It's primarily for gaming, but also will be used for music/pics/internet.

My question is this....in researching available technologies, I keep seeing references to the "next generation" of CPU's and DDR2 memory....specifically the FSB going from 800 to 1066, and the DDR2 possibly going as high as 800 from a current high of 533.

Are these improvements "in the works" and going to be available soon? Or are they "way out there" and it doesn't make sense to wait. Don't want to buy current technology just to find out I could have waited a short time and had waaaaay better stuff!

Any input is welcome as I may have misunderstood some of what I read.

    Thanks,

    Texasbobby

Well Murphy's Law dictates that "You cannot successfully determine beforehand which side of the bread to butter". Also with computer technology, what you buy today will most likely be outdated in a few months anyway. I would think that anything you got today will serve you just fine for a long time. Waiting for the next best thing could be a very long wait.

Well i wud not advice u to wait for any new advancement n technology. If something truly amazin technology has to b here in d feilds of computers then its gonna b nanotechnology and perhaps it will take a half of ur life time before dat is actually in d markets.. So u better act den wait.

If I were you I would get a nForce3 250Gb based motherboard with a GB of ram and be happy for a few years. Or you can wait a month or two and get a nForce4 based board; which will have a few improvements and probably a few problems to sort out since their new.
I don't buy into this "outdated" thing just because something slightly faster comes along. Is a Ferrari 360 Modena outdated just because they came out with the 430? I think it is still adequate for the task and if I was fortunate enough to have one I wouldn't be sending it off to the scrap heap.
