My friend has an acer laptop and is really into making short films. We have been using someones lyra to transfer video from his camcorder to his laptop. We are trying to find a way to do this our selfs but we don't know how! I was thinking about using firewire. Should this fit in the slot in his laptop?

Than all we need is a cord to connect to the firewire port on the card and the other end into the firewire port on his camcoarder. Should this work? Is there different sizes for the adaper? Will it fit?

The adapter looks like it should work. Firewire is pretty much the standard on video camcorders, just as USB is for digital still-cameras. Good luck with your movie making. :)

One of the Firewire sockets on that adapter is a 6 pin, and most of the camcorders I've seen have the 4 pin socket. Connecting cables with 4 pins one and and 6 pins at the other are fairly common so it should connect ok. It looks like there's a 4 pin firewire socket on the adapter as well, so a 4 pin to 4 pin cable should also work.
