Hi all, I'm trying to set up a Winamp Shoutcast Server... I've followed all the directions so far as setting up the plug in, and configuring the Shoutcast server itself, I just need to fix some issues with my router. Now their FAQ for Linksys's router is here:

    http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=77606&perpage=40&highlight=&pagenumber=1

The interface that they describe is not the same I'm seeing, so I couldn't follow the first part of the directions. And I'm not really comfortable reassigning IP's and making all those changes on both computers on my network. However, a few posts down, I read this:

"Just a note ... I have a Linksys router and found that I did NOT have to go through assigning IP addresses and DSN addresses as the original doco states. In other words, I was able to continue using DHCP (which I have setup to assign local addresses starting at 192.168.1.10 - so, I do know the local address of my machines - I just didn't have to hardcode them into Windows networking setup). Of course, I still had to set up the port forwarding of ports 8000-8001, but since I know the local address DHCP assigns to my Winamp streaming machine, I was able to keep DHCP active. Just wanted to pass this on in case anyone else wanted to avoid turning off DHCP."

So I should be able to set this up correctly without doing those first steps, and just Forwarding ports 8000 and 8001. I wante to double check that I did that correctly. Here's what I did:

Now I had clicked Enable, and then Save Settings. For IP addy, I know that is my Router's IP... I wasn't sure whether or not to use a 1 or 2 at the end, I'm guessing 2 because my computer is hooked up to the second slot on the Router.... As far as I can tell, all my other settings are correct so I just need to confirm that I've successfully forwarded those ports.

I obtained my computer's IP (even though it's set to Obtain IP Automatically) from whatismyipaddress.com , and linked my shoutcast server correctly, and a friend was not able to connect. I'm wondering if I needed to reboot in order for the port forwarding to take effect?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I would post this on the shoutcast forums themselves, but right now their website is having issues and will not email me my password from the account I tried to register.

Have you tried setting your router to DMZ your comptuer, yes it leaves all your ports open but thats nothing that a gui firewall (mcafee, nortons, ect.) wont fix.

and just because its plugged into the number 2 slot on the router dosent mean that your computer ip is going to be 192.168.1.2... this easist way i have found of finding this ip is to open up command prompt and type in "ipconfig" and click enter and it will pop up the ip address, the ip address is the one that you are going to dmz, all should work correctly after that. :) i was pretty much having this same problem with i set up my apache web server on my nt system, i tried to foward only the ports i needed to run the server, but it still wouldnt work, so i simply dmz my nt box, and it went right out to the world.

    Good luck

    I PMed some advice..

For a start, you're forwarding the port to the router. 192.168.1.1 is almost definitley the router. do this:

Start -> Run -> type "cmd" -> type ipconfig /all

    That way it won't dissapear
You should have a field labeled IP address, and it will start 192.168.1 and the last digit is the one you need to enter into port forwarding.

Do you know that the DNAS server is recieving the stream? And can you tune in within your own network? If you can't then you need to check other setup first before you try to open it up to the world.

    Hope that helps some!
