    The question is what do you have on that ± 18.5 TB?

    If I add all-all- my hard drives, floppy drives, dvd's, cd's, and usb sticks I still couldn't hold a candle to 28T!

    ASUS RT-AC88U wireless AC3100 router and HP gigabit 24 port managed switch controlling :-
    Thecus N7700 Pro 7 bay RAID 5 and 7 X 5TB drives
    Thecus N7700 Pro 7 bay RAID 5 and 7 X 4TB drives
    Thecus N7700 Pro 7 bay RAID 5 and 7 X 3TB drives
    Synology DS2413+ 12 bay RAID 5 and 12 X 3TB drives
    and I just bought another empty Thecus N7700 Pro in case I need parts in the future.
    When I save some pennies I will upgrade the Synology drives to 4TB unless by some miracle the 5TB drives have a massive drop in price and I will get some of those :)

    I do have another drive in the computer to store files, SSD drives were still kinda high when I built this computer. Will most likely get a larger SSD drive for Xmas.

    Well backups of a computer that has a very large Steam library for one. Backups of my CDs and DVDs. No more scratched disks.
    When is the Steam sale?

    at the house, we have 2 NAS's
    Thecus with RAID 5 -> 5 X 4TB drives and a
    Synology with RAID 5 -> 5 X 4TB drives
    giving about 31.6 TB of storage space.

    initially, we only had the Synology, then one of the hard drives went bad. it was easy enough to replace and restore the RAID.
    funny thing though, the Synology FAQ area said something along these lines....
    RAID is great, but not fool proof, AND... you have a backup, right?!!
    and i was like... sigh.... i know i know.... so i went and got the thecus just so we have a backup, since the synology has the family's entire digital life on it, and it would be impossible to replace if something bad happened. argghhhh, such a price for peace of mind. lol

    Right, you just can't have one. The NAS is a 4 bay QNAP, the other is an old PC with Limetech Unraid, with 2 & 3 TB drives, which is why I am building a second Unraid with 5 & 4 TB drives. 64TB? the 5TB is a parity drive. By the time I have all my 4TB drives in, 5-8TB drives will be cheaper....

    Wow thats a fair bit!

    Mine kinda small currently, do have a Windows 2012R2 server build in a few bits that could add 3TB to my total of 4TB
