If I resize a partition will the data move down and stay within the partition?

If not, how can I be assured the data, some of which may appear as being later in the drive than the rest, doesn't get damage or corrupt during the resize?

I have several disc utilities, Hiren's Boot CD 8.0 and Ultimate Boot CD 5.02 (Winternal's ERD too but it doesn't support resizing).

    Computer specs below, thanks,
    Robert

I recommend to completely defragment the partition before attempting to reduce the size.

i tend to go into safe mode to defrag... defrag'd no less than one day ago

I have UBCD 5.04 and Hiren's Boot cd with utilities too. I will look into this one as well, does this run while the OS is up and running?

Yes it runs at the same time as the OS, you can shrink the OS partition if you want to although it is not advisable to shrink it too much as you need space for the updates.

I have four partitions on an IDE 250GB HDD, some partitions are exaggerated in size and needs redistributed.

Easeus is the tool for the job.
After installing it run it and you will see all the partitions and sizes, just right click on the partition you want to change and it will give you a menu of thing you can do.

It is safe and will not let you damage your OS because the restrictions on a "boot or logical drive " are limited.

Sounds very appealing, I look forward to the interface...

    Thank you,

You can also create a bootable CD and run the program outside of Windows. On the few occasions I have used it I have found it very straightforward and reliable.

if this is an executable... what else is needed on the cd? would looking at the autorun file on a cd help understand a direction?

It's a Linux self booting version of EPM. It just boots straight into the program interface.
