I have a custom built PC, which runs Windows XP Pro (SP2), and which I know is completely free of Malware (after posting in the other section).

My strange issue is this - the PC won't turn off or restart automatically. One has to actually press the relevant button for that to happen. What makes this stranger too is that when I'm in Safe Mode then it behaves itself like it should. However, every day I have to wait for the insides to stop whirring before I can acutally stop the power getting to the pc.

I figure that there must be something happening in normal mode, wihch isn't in Safe Mode, that is causing this to be so.

    Any ideas?

See what is running in task manager ....often a program is running in the background and you need to wait to shut down ...

Do you get such a message?

I have a short cut that you can put on the desktop ...but we will look at that option later.

What is in your msconfig startup list?

No, I don't get any messages saying that there is a program still running.

Also, I can't seem to run msconfig from the Start Menu "Run" option. How else can I see this?
