My Laptop has been running fine but now it reboots when I attempt to shut it down for the night.
Sleep and other commands seem to work OK.

I'm kinda a bonehead when it comes to this stuff so I know I could use some help.

I did run some driver disc looking for the driver to fix a problem of getting my GPSr to link up thru a port. Could that have caused this, I don't think so but....

Pavilion Entertainment PC. DV 2700 Notebook.

    32 bit Operating system.

Running Windows Vista. Service Pak 2.

Microsoft is trying to find out what is causing this.

I'll let ya know if we get this figured out.

Interestingly enough, a Restore did not fix it either.

Sorry about that link mate, i gave you the link from another seach i had going
Yeh this is a know vista issue, but i acnt find the page i had up, ther has been all differnet causes and fixes reported to this issue, you are not alone :(

Some people have updated ther bios and fixed it, some peple have reported hanging and or conflicting drivers causing it and ther subsequent removal fixing it.

Take a look at this google search --> http://www.google.co.uk....

I personally would just save all your data and install XP or 7 cos vista blows tbh

edit: BTW have you had any windows updates recently? some have reported an update causing it too :( if you have try removing them and see what happens.

Well the Restore did help alittle I guess. It now shuts down in the safe mode normally.

Still reboots in the noemal mode or, just sits there with a blank screen with the keyboard lights on....

    Hi

Re-install the chipset driver for your HP model, with not having the full model code its difficult to be accurate for you as their are 153 models in the DV2700 range.

But the main Intel Chipset driver here should help

Thenh make sure ACPI is set in power options in BIOs and if you have any old Roxio software installed then uninstall as they can cause this, also as this seems to have started after a driver update, remove that driver that was installed before this happened and let us know the hardware make and model of GPSr device you have as driver finders are not as good as made out to be and IMHO cause more issues than enough.

Ended up doing a Back up to the Omega external HD (or so I thought).

Reset the laptop to factory setting. Now in the process of reloading everything.

I thought the backup would be available to me but because it is not in the computer memory the computer can't seem to find it when I want to restore it.

Computer now running fine, just a matter of recovering all my lost data!

I did find some files and now need to learn how to reload them.

Does the computer recognize that an external device is connected?

Yes, it does recognize the external device.

Have you tried the "Send To" command from the external?

    I'll look into that, thanks!

If the "Send to " command for sending to your C drive does not show, there is a way to create it.
    Keep us informed.

    It's been awhile...

I ended up doing a backup and reconfiguring/rebooting the laptop to the manufactures basic setup.

Reloaded many of my programs and finally now have recovered my backup so I am almost back to where I was. The file name threw me.

That was not a pleasant experience.

A lesson has been deeply engrained though, and relying on any computer is never going to happen again........yet right, I know!

    Paper backups will commence.

Thanks to all that tried to solve my problem, whatever it was. It shuts down now like it should and all the lights go out.

Yes it does as stated before.

What I didn't realize is, the computer re-named the Backup folder using my profile as listed in the software and put everything under the folder name, "Bob-PC."

Pretty much back up and running now, again, thanks for putting up with me here.;)
