    No big emergency today was just screwin around and I am trying to figure something out.

    My so ALWAYS leaves his computer on usually all night so I wanted to automatically shut it down at 9pm.

    So I created a new shortcut on my desktop called "SHUTDOWN"
    I named it shutdown in the wizard as it was creating it pointing to "system32"--->Shutdown.exe

    By putting -s -t 30 in the shortcut by editing it under properties it will wait 30 seconds then shut down.
    HERE IS MY QUESTION.................

    Unless someone clicks on that shortcut it does no good so I tried to
    "Add a Schedule Task" pointing to the shortcut on my Desktop. so at 9PM the task starts and the computer should shut down. It does not.
    I get a flash of a Black screen "CMD" and then nothing.

    There are probably programs to do this another way but I am the kind of person that will not stop till I figure it out!
    this is how I described what I did to another friend of mine that just threw up his arms and said "UH"? I should have known better SOoooo....
    I will ask the almight computer Guru's at majorgeek cus "YOU GUYS KOW EVERYTHING"!!!!

    RIGHT CLICK ON DESKTOP
    CLICK "NEW" THEN SHORTCUT
    WHEN THE WIZARD OPENS UP NAME IT SHUTDOWN

    RIGHT CLICK ON THE NEW SHORTCUT AND GO TO PROPERTIES
    YOU WILL SEE SOMETHING LIKE %windir%\system32\SHUTDOWN.exe
    ADD TO IT (SPACE)-s(SPACE)-t(SPACE)360
    THE NUMBER 360 STANDS FOR THE NUMBER OF SECONDS BEFORE SHUT DOWN

    600= 10 MINUTES
    3600=60 MINUTES

    IF YOU WANT IT TO SHUTDOWN EVERY NIGHT AT 10PM LET ME KNOW
    I CAN DO THAT TO

    Question first because if you type something this long no one is going to read it all :(

    Why shut it off? There are 2 schools of thought here as to why it should be turned on our left off but in all honesty no one wins this argument. I used to shut mine down, now I don't bother. Electricity is saved by sleep mode and it powers up faster and I can leave tasks to run while I sleep.

    Still want to do it? I found this tutorial to see if you did it right. It refers to Vista but works the same on my Windows 7: http://www.thespinningdonut.com/how-to-automatically-shutdown-your-windows-vista-computer/

    Got it right? I researched this and tested the one everyone says is best and added it to Majorgeeks for you today:
