Shuts down when I remove portable drive

    Just over the last 2 days, when I remove my portable drive from the usb port the computer (Dell running windows xp) shuts down automatically. This has happened with 2 different drives. How do I stop this?

    I have never used the "remove safely", always just unplugged the drive and never had this before.
