Well, im currently on a quest to make my PC run as efficiently as possible.

Ive tweaked a lot of stuff on my system with other programs. Disabled services, changed settings, etc. Ive used a few different online and offline scans to inform me of things I can change or disable. And so far I have improved my performance loads. Ive used PC Pitstop, Tune Up Utilities 2007, Fresh UI, and now I have got Si Software Sandra Lite.

Ive just run the Analysis And Advice scan and its come up with 16 warnings. I get the idea of what some of them mean but dont know how to change them. And others I just havent a clue what they mean. I know this is a bit of a long one, Ive numbered them all below so if anyone could maybee answer the one or two they understand, so I can fix these problems.

Help and advice is very much appreciated! Please dont get too techie on me tho! But you dont need to be too gentle either!

Sorry the post is so long!

Am I correct to think 3, 5, 8 and 14 are talking about changing hardware? This isnt something I want to be getting into. Im after tweaking what ive got allready.
As I am using a notebook, 9 should not matter should it?
Could 12 be referring to my Bluetooth USB device as sheildsup have me as fully stealthed?
I really need most assistance on the numbers I havent mentioned as I am totally clueless to what they mean or how to solve them!

    The Warnings:-

Ooops! I have just realised you can double click on the errors to get a more detailed explanation! durrr.

Sorry to bump my thread again.

Ive narrowed all this down to 4 questions. I understand the rest perfectly now. Here they are:-

What does this mean? What is a host controller and why would it be switched off I have never edited my BIOS before. Is it something I should change? And if so how?

How do I get into my BIOS to do this. And how do I navigate through the bios to find this? Is it reccomended to do this, Si Sandra says it wil improve performance as its too high at the moment, would this be anything to do with everything being integrated?

What is the service wmiprvse? How come Si Sandra is saying its disapeared?

What is an external graphics adapter? Does this mean it is somehow possible to upgrade my graphics capabilities externally?

    Thanks. ;)

An external graphics adapter is a video card. You are currently using a built in (on board) video adapter. Disabling this and purchasing and installing a seperate video card will greatly increase performance in graphics intensive programs like games. A host controller is usually a drive controller of some type. If you don't have a floppy drive, the controller for it is probably disabled in BIOS. PCI latency is (basically) the speed at which a PCI bus operates. Personally, I don't think you'd notice a change in performance by altering this setting. Here are some links about wmiprvse: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/wmiprvse/
    http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/wmiprvse.exe.html
And here's some info directly from Microsoft:
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a component of the Microsoft Windows operating system and is the Microsoft implementation of Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM). WBEM is an industry initiative to develop a standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment. You can use WMI to automate administrative tasks (such as editing the registry) in an enterprise environment. You can use WMI in scripting languages that have an engine on Windows and that handle Microsoft ActiveX objects. You can also use the WMI Command-Line utility (Wmic.exe) to modify the Windows registry.

For additional information about WMI, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/wmi_start_page.asp

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Wayne

Yes an external ... is a posh name for a video card (AGP or PCI). The point is not only that the more expensive ones can out perform the onboard (on the mobo) ones. It's also that the onboard one 'steals ' some of your RAM to use as video memory. Everest will tell the difference.

I agree with Dave, you won't see any difference in adjusting the latency, even if you have a setting to do it. Most compact bios don't.

The missing service was probably used by the original installers batch install system. You don't need it.

Yes the disabled controller is probably switched off because of some function you don't have/aren't using. This could be, Infra Red, Floppy... all sorts of communications ports.

Thanks for the help guys. I understand it all now!

I got my hopes up for a second there as I thought it would be possible to have a graphics card somehow connected externally. Guess im stuck with what I have got. :(

    Thanks again ;)
