SigmaTel Audio vs Windows XP Audio

I have been busting my head over this one... I checked several threads, but none were specific to my problem:

My microphone won't work when I try to use Skype. I am using SigmaTel Audio (which is the only option available). However, the "cabs" file states Windows XP Audio driver (D00502-002-001).

My question is: How do I get Skype or any other device to read from this driver instead of SigmaTel? Please dont tell me to uninstall SigmaTel. I tried that before and lost my speakers. At least now I can hear my friends even if they can't hear me...
