Sigmatel C-Major High Definition Audio Issues

About 2 - 3 days ago I asked a buddy of mine if he wanted to watch me stream a game, so I downloaded the livestream program, got a channel set up etc, and started streaming all right, except for one issue, there was no sound.

Now, I researched this a bit and I found that I was missing an important thing in my mixer list, the Stereo Mix option. So, after searching through and testing fixes, *the registry fix, all that*, the general consensus was that I should update my sound drivers, I was using very old drivers that needed to be updated, and apparently updating would fix the stereo mix thing.

So, I spent hours trying to get it to update and all that, and when I finished, I noticed that I don't even have a sigmatel tab in my mixer list anymore. Updating it broke my sound.

So I went into the device manager and it showed that I was getting the code 10 error, for those not familiar it was the 'device cannot start' problem.

So going through multitudes of other patches and searching for hours, I still haven't been able to find a fix to my problem.

I have a stable point with the old drivers I was using I can use if I want sound but I can't get the stupid stereo mix to work and hell, shouldn't I be able to update my drivers?

So theres two solutions I can come to, either a. actually get a newer driver to work, or b. get the stereo mix on the old driver to work.

I can restore and add another everest log for the older setup if it helps, not sure if it posts driver information.

(also, I've tried installing chipsets, couldn't get em to work *yes I had the right versions*)

    Everest log attached

Sorry for double posting, I couldn't edit the last page,

but, new development. I did a system restore, and now I can't hear sound even with the old settings. :(

Apparently my old 2005 drivers are gone now :(

    DXP051, is that a xps 400?

your driver is listed as the 2005 one.

Is this the one you installed?

also, you might want to check your chipset driver version.

and last but not least, you might think about updating your bios

I've been having trouble with getting the drivers installed, but I had a 2007 sigmatel audio driver then a 2008 one, I had the report scan when I had the 2008 one installed, so maybe there's something wrong with it.

As for the bios, I've been looking for it, but I don't see anything to update 'A7'

I tried installing a chipset utility yesterday I think, it kept saying I didn't have the right install or whatever, even though I got the one for the model of computer I have :/

    Yeah, I have an xps 400, DXP051.

audio drivers are tricky, i would stick with the ones that dell has listed for your model, which is what i posted. it's from 2005.
you are getting these from dell's support site, correct?

Among other places, I'm still trying to enable the stereo mix thing so I can stream properly as well. I think they added a fix for it in the newer drivers, at least thats what I've read.

New update as well, I updated my chipset thing, not sure what it did.

I have sound now at least, I don't have a mixer though.

    -------

Forgot to add this, but I rolled back my sigmatel drivers last night and it bluescreened.

    0x0000007E
    sthda.sys - Address B0C2C885 base at B0C08000 Datestamp 42a4c336

But when I restarted I had sound, but it was HP something in the mixer, no sigmatel at all.

Then today I installed the chipset things and there are no options in the mixer, but I'm still able to listen to music.

    -------

One more thing, the only bios that dell has listed for me is the current version I'm using.

I'm fairly sure my audio drivers are corrupted.

*also, why is the edit button timed? D:*

I've uninstalled it about 20 - 30 times, the software remains each time.

I can't get the new drivers to work properly anyhow.

Well, after quite a bit of messing around, installing different drivers, I figured out a fix for my model and sound card.

First things first, the first thing I did was downloaded Driver Sweeper and cleared out all of my audio drivers, then I found Sigmatel Driver 5.10.4823.0
and installed it, as a base. Now, the driver worked but I still didn't have Stereo Mix so I did a bit more research in obscure forums until I found
    5.10.5208_W3_XP32_XP64_2K_wSTACGUI_UPMIX_AC'97FP_V2.EXE

    quite a mouthful, I know.

Normally, you would get this off of the intel site, but being the way they are, it is no longer downloadable, so I looked around a bit for it and found it on a 3rd party hosting site. I don't recommend that you do this without scanning the software first if you need to do the same.

So, I installed that and restarted the computer, lo and behold I have Stereo Mix and Sound.

If anyone needs me to host a mirror for that, I will, just send me a PM on this website and I'll help you out.

Thanks for the effort smoke, was glad you tried to help :)

Took me a couple days to get this all figured out, man I love google.

    Hi,
Long shot coming up given the age of the thread and the hardware concerned but just like ChronoxParadox, I am looking for the Intel driver:
    5.10.5208_W3_XP32_XP64_2K_wSTACGUI_UPMIX_AC'97FP_V2.EXE
which is even harder to find than two years ago. I can't find it anywhere
and redirects to Intel's site are hopeless.
I would PM ChronoxParadox as kindly suggested but new users are not permitted.
If anyone is still listening who has the driver, I'd appreciate getting the software.
    Thanks

I eventually settled on a realtek driver that worked with the hardware.

Since it has been quite a long time, I've actually built a new computer in the mean time with completely new parts.

If you absolutely cannot buy a new soundcard for any reason, there are several programs available that auto - download drivers for you.

Thank you for the reply. It was always a long shot. I had hoped there would be a rusty copy sitting on a hard disk somewhere.

I'm just sort of annoyed that the hardware supports Stereo Mix, possibly the default Dell driver too with registry mods, but not out of the box.

I will fiddle with one of the recording packages suggested by Audacity (Freecorder, Total Recorder etc.). Perhaps it is time to upgrade the hardware anyway :)
