When I try to edit my signature, I get a message that the signature is too long and must be shortened. Here is what I'm trying to get my signature to read: "Dell Dimension E310, 80 GB HD, Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, Windows Media Center 2005 w/SP2, Spyware Terminator, SpywareBlaster, Avast, Comodo, ccleaner" I don't think it's quite as long as the previous one, but the message still says it's too long. Any ideas?

The Signature is limited to two lines now.

So there is no way to fit all that in..

OK, but what is two lines? I mean, how long is one line?

Also, what of the info I was trying to get into my signature would you say would be most helpful to a person answering a future question I might have?

I agree with Bill and the owners. People were putting the brand of fans they had, of all things!:confusedrolleyes Or people put in super long quotes or poems etc. It is annoying to scroll by all that verbiage.

The reason for my questions is that I'm trying to update my sig. But if the info really isn't needed, I'll just delete the sig altogether.

Thanks for all the interest. My sig's still inaccurate, but anything I try comes up "too long." So be it.

    Take this
    and write Dimension E310, Pent4@3.2GHz, WME wSP2
Most people know a dimension is a dell and that a pentium of any number is intel

No need to post how large your hd or every bit of security software. If you have a security question, you can post what is relevant.

Please don't be offended what i posted was not a personal attack.

a number of members who put in their signatures before the restrictions came into place had 5 or 6 lines and my personal view is they are not needed and just use space, which in turn makes the post longer and more pages are needed.

at one time it became a P*****g contest who could get the most into the sig.

I wasn't anywhere near offended. Sorry if you got that impression. And I'm way too old for "a P*****g contest." I just honestly wondered what info the experts on this board think is most helpful as they try to solve our problems. Thanks for all the replies to my questions.

    Hi Frybo

Info I would generally ask for is....

What OS and Service Pack version.

What Software is faulting and if error message/screenhot and recreation steps to try and recreate fault, plus version of software.

Softwares a minefield at times to diagnose issue, you could go from an easy fix to one in which one application is conflicting with another, so slow and step by steps to narrow those down are needed.

If hardware issue then would likely want current PC specs, but I think what the crux of not having long sigs with multiple lines of specs is that we would only need these items once, eg. I have 4 PCs so my sig line could be loooooong if I used it.

So personally think the info needed is on a case by case senerio, do sort of remember an add-on for VB for adding a small PC icon which linked to what your PC specs where, without having to be in a sig line, this allowed more.. but cannot rememebr where I noticed it or wether MA/CP would go for adding it, their call.

I am bumping this thread because there does seem to be a bug in the signature limit.

Obviously, I have two lines now. But I want to change it to:

    Bill (AFE7Ret)
MS MVP, Windows Desktop Experience, Engineering 2007-2009
and I get the following error:
There are not two lines - no extra line returns or anything.

But if I pull line 2 up to line one:

Bill (AFE7Ret) MS MVP, Windows Desktop Experience, Engineering 2007-2009
    no errors.

If I remove 8 characters from line 2, it will work.

So why do both line 1 and 2 fit on line 1, but splitting it into 2 lines cause the error? Something is not right.

    Hi Bill

Thats the quirkiness of VBulletin for you, but see your sig is reading as you wanted it.

Thanks Halo, but no it isn't. As I noted above, I want it to say,

    Bill (AFE7Ret)
MS MVP, Windows Desktop Experience, Engineering 2007-2009

... but I can't do that. It says I have more than one line.

Blind as a bat I am Bill, its now changed, but think the issue in VB is a problem, but it has many issues, sadly we have to work around them... Admins have special mystical powers over accounts hence I managed to adjust it.
