Is it possible that the company network admin could install a vpn like software on company computers to spy? if possible, how would you detect this?

Well, pending on the company, this is perfectly legal. They have the right to monitor your actions on their own equipment. Making sure that you are doing work related...work.

Though, I'm basing my thoughts on the military. We use to monitor outgoing emails. Mostly looking for keywords and such.

Also, if this is company policy, then you are stuck with this. Another item, I don't believe VPN is being used in the right context for this post...

I had a friend who recently got fired from a high paying job. Got caught going to a non work related forum (gaming forum) through monitoring.
