silly dvd question?

    hi all,,

    i recently bought a dell vostro 200.
    bare bones model for sure. now, when i try to copy photos to a blank cd, the only thing i get is a message, "please insert a blank cd into the drive,,"
    i have tried both cd's and dvd's with the same results.
    i have no burning software such as roxio or anything. could that be the problem?
