Silver car versus red car?

I'm beginning the process of looking for a new car (something along the lines of an Accord or Camry). My color preferences are either silver or dark red (burgundy).

I've heard people say that (all other things being equal) red cars draw more attention - especially from cops using radar and laser guns. As such, if multiple cars are going over the speed limit, the red car is the one most likely to be targeted and ticketed.

Is this true or just an urban legend? I'd especially like to hear from people in law enforcement on their opinions (I have a good friend who is a Sherriff's Deputy but I'm a bit embarrassed to ask him. :-o) - and no, I do not drive like Justin Beiber. :-D

I have an Acura now (division of Honda), but I had a Honda Accord and an Odyssey after I had two kids. Honda makes incredible cars...as does Acura.

During those times I had a red Mustang convertible.

The only car I had a speeding ticket in was the navy blue Honda Odyssey minivan. :confused

How fast were you going, and what was the speed limit?

I was in a 35 and I was going 49 if I have to be truthful. :p This was years ago though.

Believe me, I utilized my Mustang much more than my minivan. On highways though.

Australia is a very sunny country with very high UV levels (with the highest skin cancer rate) and in the past red cars and orange cars always faded very quickly compared to the other colours but paint technology has improved so much that now it comes down to what colour you prefer as red and orange are no longer a problem.

Over here the speeding car gets the ticket because most of the tickets come from speed cameras and red light cameras and they don't care what colour car they are snapping ;)

I've had tickets in every red car I've driven (3).

    None of the others

So snopes be damned, I'd say its true.

It also depends if you want to blend into rainy, foggy weather so more cars will pull into your path, change into your lane, etc. Silver's great for blending into the overall gray of a roadway - at dusk or early morning.

Personally, I prefer my car to be visible in as many lighting and weather conditions. "What do you mean you can't see me?!!"

RED as I have a red car, don't normally go for red as I like blue, but the Maranello Red colour was too much to pass up and with the petrol turbo engine, a steal.

You turn your headlights on in these driving conditions. In some US States it is the law that you turn them on if you need the windshield wipers. Most newer vehicles have a setting for the lights to come on every time the vehicle is started. I use that because it helps your visibility even on sunny days.

I have both a silver and a red vehicle and have not got a speeding ticket in either. I try not to speed in town but sometimes it slips up on you on when you are on the interstate.rolleyes

    They geared it weird.

It bucks you when you first start off.

The first time my wife drove it, she spun the tires and almost hit a wall.

Its only 306hp, but something with how they geared it makes it feel like more in first gear.

    After that, its fine.

Thanks for the replies. Personally, I like the red better - it will ultimately end up being a choice of which brand/model of car I like best and what's in stock. I am a car dealer's worst nightmare since I prefer the basics versus spending $5K-$8K extra for the "bling" package of leather seats, sunroof and huge rims that actually make the ride quality worse.

Don't think so. Maybe in Kalifornia, if they think the bright lights are confusing the dolphins or spotted owls. :-D

Sorry, it never occurred to me you would not have lights on your car.

    Palo Verde isn't it?

I have a Catalina Blue Camry. I used to think that white is the worst - drab, utility - like business fleet cars.
On the Camry, white looks really good, IMO.

I think you have to fit the color to the particular design of a car.
A color that looks great on one car, just doesn't work on another.

I agree regarding color and how it fits a car or car type.

I didn't understand your question though.

The Trees - just kind of a comment.

I have family there and it's so different from where I am, it sparks my interest when I see those landscapes.
