Silverlight in Win7 Ultimate 32bit

A Microsoft website instructed me to install Silverlight before I could view an MS video. When I went through the motions, the process told me that the just-downloaded version was already installed (yesterday's date). But apparently it is not visible to Microsoft ! How to get to view MS videos ?

If you look in control panel -> programs and features, is Microsoft Silverlight showing? If so, what version.
Also what browser are you using and could you provide an unlinked link (e.g -http://forums.majorgeeks.com/-) to the MS video in question?

Silverlight 4/09/2015 v5.1.40728.0 is what shows. I was using I.E.v9; a link is in -http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/set-computer-send-receive-faxes-
As it is not opening now (bad internet connection ?) I can give no further detail.

In Internet Explorer, go into Tools > Manage add-ons > Toolbars and Extensions. Set it to show All add-ons. Is Microsoft Silverlight listed and with status enabled?

I can't answer right now, because I get no response to clicking on the Tools menu. When I do get a response I will answer.

I do not use I.E. much, so have neglected specifically updating it. Will do so now. To answer your question : Silverlight is NOT amongst the seven items from MS (that are enabled).
I don't remember where I got the v9 info from, but now that you drew my attention to it I looked in 'About I.E.' and it says v11. - with a tick for 'install new versions automatically'.

I have Silverlight installed on two netbooks, both running Win 7, because they came with a free Netflix trial and Silverlight was installed when new by the manufacturer.

I don't use IE, though I keep it patched and updated.

What browser do you normally use?
I normally use palemoon but I also have FF ESR as a backup. When I check addons/plugins Silverlight is shown for both of those so it is possible to view a MS video in a browser besides IE.

I normally use Firefox. I have heard of neither PaleMoon nor FF ESR. Chrome will show things that Firefox will not, but I am interested in getting I.E. to work with the Silverlight that IS installed !

FF ESR is simply Firefox, Extended Support Release.
It is a FF version that is supported for one year rather than having a new version every 6 weeks. I'm currently on v 38.2.1. I've had 3 security updates since May. I will be on that until v45 which is the next ESR version in May 2016.

Give me the link to the website that didn't work. I'll then fire up IE on my netbook that has Silverlight installed and see what happens.

I do know you have to click the gear (top right in IE 11) and select Manage addons. Then at the bottom of the right column, select show all addons. Eventually there is a section and Silverlight is in there. Mine says 32 and 64 bit enabled.

I fired up Palemoon and this is what I see
    http://www.walagata.com/w/perk/video_PM.jpg
so you should be able to view this in Firefox, as long as in the addons/plugins, Silverlight is set to either Always Activate or Ask to Activate.
And of course you can launch IE and watch it with that browser.

When I try to install Silverlight, I am told that it is already installed. But the video plays in neither I.E. nor in F.F. which each tell me to install Silverlight.

Open Firefox then Tools, addons, plugins.
Do you see Silverlight in the list? If so, what version? What is indicated at the far right?

By changing the setting on the right to Always Activate, I now have the M$video displaying (in Silverlight ?). I suppose some similar trick is required in Chrome and I.E.
    Thank you !

Despite choosing 'All add-ons' in I.E.11, Silverlight is NOT listed; not even under 'Not available'.

In Chrome there is a large list in the page displayed by http://www.howtogeek.com/217251/how-...-42-and-later/, a 'manual' scrutiny did not reveal an option to 'enable npapi', and I could find no SEARCH mechanism to look on my behalf. So I had to abandon that attempt.

It may be worth following the directions at this Microsoft Support article for uninstalling and reinstalling a corrupt Silverlight installation.

    That's because chrome eliminated silverlight.

    Did you do this?
Paste this into Google Chrome’s address bar: chrome://flags/#enable-npapi

From reading, you would be adding a flag that chrome does not include.

I have pasted 'chrome://flags/#enable-npapi' into the search bar. It opened a webpage with entries too numerous to 'manually' search. When I first did this, I did not know how to get Chrome to search the page. I have now discovered how to use FIND in Chrome; and it returned NO results for 'silverlight'.
So my current state is that Firefox will, but Chrome will not, nor will I.E., play the video on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/set-computer-send-receive-faxes#1TC=windows-7, despite performing MANY tweaks. I'm not that fussed about Chrome, but I would like Microsoft Videos to be able to play in I.E. (v11).
