Simple bare-bones messenger program needed

I work in a small office and someone I communicate with sits just far enough away that we can't hear each other. We don't need all the bells and whistles like file sharing, etc... and he is not very tech. savvy.
I've searched the download section, but most seem to link up with ICQ or Yahoo Messenger or some other service.

Is there a simple, stand-alone program without spyware that we could use to ask and answer simple questions without yelling?

How to make portable:
1.Download the installer and extract to a folder of your choice. (uniextract)
2.Move chat_incoming.wav located in $SMPROGRAMS\Fomine LAN Chat to $INSTDIR.
3.Move files in $INSTDIR to a folder of your choice.
4.Launch LANChat.exe

 

Thanks Foogoo. I downloaded the .exe for the first one and the file name shows up as lmc-1.2.35-win32.exe.part and it won't open/install. Do you use the first of the two you posted?

These are the only instructions:
Download the installer from LAN Messenger download page.
Launch the installer to install LAN Messenger.
Follow the steps in the installer.

 

I downloaded the Zip Archive (no install) version of LanMessenger
and it runs fine.
Click on messenger then below that download, then scroll down to the large green button that says "Zip archive 14.8 no installation needed" click that.

LanChat works just as good, I didn't move the wav file, but the program runs just the same.

 

How did you get the .exe to run? I get asked what program do I want to use to open it.

your file name is exe.part - meaning it was partially downloaded. Download it again.
