Oh well.....we all have to start out somewhere!
I wish to download files occasionally and put them into various places in my computer which is running Windows 98se. However the download box which pops up only gives me 2 choices......"open" or "save to disc". The latter usually leads to an icon being installed on my desktop, but from there I cannot put it into "system" (as I needed to recently) or elsewhere. If I right-click on the icon, I only really have options of "my briefcase", "my documents" or "floppy".
How do I put it elsewhere, please?

Do you have the option of a right click on the "Save to disc" button?

    No, I just tried and I don't.....at least _I_ couldn't ! Should there be?
There's an option to open it with various programs, but not to save it any other way.

    Hello Bean,
Ages since I used 98SE but this should fix your dilemna.
I assume you are using IE when down loading. When you go to 'save' you will see a menu on at the top of IE and it will in your case say Desktop - the default. Click to the right and it will open an Explorer menu and you can select from there to where you want to save your download. If that's different on your computer to mine (I use XP) then bear in mind that Desktop is merely a folder on your hard drive. Open up the desktop folder using Explorer and transfer from there to anywhere you want! You merely left click on the file, hold down the mouse left button and walk it to its new destination.

Well it really does not matter which browser you are using - in the case of Opera IE and Frefox. when you go to Save a download you are given the option of where to save the download - generally it will present you with the default which can alter by changing to the default you choose before download. Have a careful look next time you download.
Previous comments about Explorer still apply - downloads can be moved anywhere you want using Explorer wherever the downloaded file happens to be.
    Cheers

Personally I prefer Mozilla over IE. Mozilla seems to be alot more secure than IE IMO. Just my 2 cents.
